The Home Wine Guy

Transforming Wine Lovers into Wine Makers
Nolan Habegger
Home Winemaking Evangelist
Who is the Home Wine Guy?
I'm a practical, down-to-earth wine lover who has learned that it's possible to make delicious and affordable wine at home. I'm on a personal mission to teach people who love drinking wine how to make it at home so they can enjoy their favorite varieties at a fraction of retail cost.
Since 2008, I've been making my own wine and encouraging others to join in the fun. Professionally, I have more than 25 years of experience in technical training and communications. I've spent most of my career breaking down complex technical concepts to make them easy to learn and implement. This website is the marriage of my two biggest passions: winemaking and teaching others.
What I Will Do for You
Each week, I publish at least one blog post crafted to equip you to become an effective home winemaker. Using a mix of personally authored articles, short videos, and links to other resources I've found helpful, I use my blog to provide answers to questions like these:
-

-
What makes a wine "good"?
-
What equipment do I need to get started?
-
How safe is home winemaking?
-
How do I get the greatest value out of home winemaking?
-
What are the legalities of making wine at home?
-
Which products and equipment are best for me?
-
How do I prevent wine faults and spoilage?
If you're just starting out, you may find that my answers will create more questions! If that's the case, you can follow up with me in the blog post comments, by email, or through social media (more information below).
As an experienced home winemaker, I am committed to creating an environment where anyone who is interested can gain access to the information and resources they need to achieve their goals. As a professional communicator, I am committed to simplifying winemaking so you find it easy to understand and easy to do. If you are even slightly interested in learning about home winemaking, I encourage you to join me!
Let's Get Started!
So what's the next step? Here is what I recommend:
Subscribe to my blog email list. I know what you're thinking: if I give this guy my email address, he's going to fill my IN Box with spam. Here's my commitment to you: as a blog subscriber, you will only receive notification of blog posts and web site updates. I won't send you emails trying to sell you things. I won't sell or give your email address to anyone. I will make sure the only thing you get from me is valuable information to help you in your journey as a home winemaker. And I won't be a pest if you unsubscribe or ask me to delete your contact information.
Get to know me. I have a few videos on my YouTube channel (more are in the works) which will give you some insight into the home winemaking process, and introduce you to who I am and what I know about winemaking. (Some people tell me I have a face made for radio, but I will let you be the judge!). Don't be shy about posting your questions and reactions in the comments section - your feedback will help me know what topics to cover next!
Follow me on social media. Like most people, you may be pressed for time or want to consume content in small, easy to digest pieces. If you want me to review or promote your book, product, or website, or you are interested in selling me your groundbreaking app, showing me your block chain investment system, or convincing me to join your multi-level marketing team, responses may be delayed (or non-existent). My valuable time is already committed to helping others find the joy and satisfaction in making their own wine.
Why I Do This
I get a great deal of satisfaction out of making wine and sharing it with my family and friends. I want you to experience the same sense of fulfillment. I believe anyone who wants to produce a delicious, cost-effective wine at home can do it. Sharing my knowledge, experience, and passion with you is one small way I can make the world a better place for us all.
My Home Winemaking Story
I started making wine at home in 2008, after a co-worker shared his experience with me. My first batch of wine was one gallon of Gwertztraminer made from canned juice I purchased at a local home brew store. Tasting the fruit of my labors hooked me on the idea, and I quickly became an evangelist for the hobby.
Since that time, I've successfully created hundreds of gallons of wine from kits, focusing primarily on dry reds, which are my favorites to drink. I've also produced several batches of traditional mead (honey wine). Along the way, I've experienced my fair share of mistakes and less than perfect end products, but those events taught me lessons and allowed me to grow as a winemaker.
I've been married to my best friend and fellow wine drinker since 1990. We live in The Woodlands, Texas, a planned community just north of Houston. We are the parents of four children; all of whom are graduated from homeschooling and are pursuing their own passions.
